Kourtney Stone
KOURTNEY STONE is an artist residing in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Originally from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Kourtney attended Maryland Institute College of Art, earning her B.F.A. in Ceramics and M.A. in Teaching. Then she stayed in the Baltimore area, working as a high school art teacher and grade dean. During this time, Kourtney continued to show her art and received numerous awards for her work. She also served as a board member of the Clay Connection. In 2018, Kourtney relocated to Atlanta, GA. There she studied at Georgia State University, completing her M.F.A. in Studio Art with specialization in Ceramics in 2021. After this, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Indiana University in Bloomington. Kourtney has presented at Mid-Atlantic Clay Conference, NCECA, and the Figurative Association Symposium. She taught national workshops at Appalachian Center for Craft and Arrowmont. Kourtney has been a resident artist at Baltimore Clayworks, Arrowmont’s Pentaculum, and Watershed. She has received many scholarships and grants, including the Welch Fellowship at Georgia State University and the NCECA Graduate Fellowship. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Harrisburg Area Community College.
Shawn Williams
SHAWN WILLIAMS received his MFA from the University of Delaware in 2001. He received his BFA from Edinboro University in 1998. He received a fellowship in the career development program from the Center for Emerging Artists in Philadelphia. Shawn currently teaches Printmaking and Foundation courses at Harrisburg Area Community College and has taught at the Delaware College of Art and Design. Shawn has had solo exhibitions at the Woodmere Art Museum, Elizabethtown College, the Doshi Gallery and Millersville University. His work has been included in group exhibitions at the Print Center in Philadelphia, the North American Print Biennial in Boston and the Pleiades Gallery in New York City. His work has been published in Image Transfer on Clay, by Paul Andrew Wandless. Shawn’s work is in permanent collections at the Woodmere Art Museum, Virginia Commonwealth University, the Center for Emerging Visual Artists in Philadelphia and the Southern Graphics Council.

Word Hive: A Space for Poets
Meeting the 1st Saturday of the month from June 2023 – November 2023 at Landis House

All Creatives must be seniors (65+) from Perry County, PA and able to attend all 6 sessions.
CALENDAR – IMPORTANT DATES
The first three sessions we will read and write our own poems – using Common Wealth as a textbook. The final three sessions we will use a book on Matisse
and a book by Ezra Jack Keats to create our own collages (2 each) based on our own poems written. ALL MATERIALS (books, journals, art supplies) are provided by through a special grant.
Word Hive: A Space for Poets, has received a grant from The Lotus Fund, a charitable fund of the Perry County Community Foundation, a regional foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC). The grant was awarded for use in a specific project for Perry County, PA.

Submit your artwork to be featured in our traveling outdoor exhibition that was created to safely engage and lift up our community and artists, during the challenges of the pandemic. The outdoor showings have been so popular, we are continuing them in 2022!
Uplifting artwork centered on themes of inspiration, encouragement, hope, perseverance, etc., will be printed and displayed on durable outdoor yard signs along walking trails in several of our local parks. Artists are asked to also submit written statements, poems or quotes relating to their pieces, which will be printed on the reverse side of the sign along with the artist’s name, medium, town and photo.
The goal is to leave visitors with inspiring and uplifting messages that they can carry with them throughout their day.
