PCCA offers a variety of classes and workshops including jewelry making, painting, basket weaving and rug hooking. Great for a day out with friends or for your own personal artistic enrichment. Upcoming opportunities will be listed here as they become available.

To reserve space in any of these classes, please submit your registration. You may also call PCCA at 717-567-7023 to sign up! To receive the member rate, you must join PCCA and maintain a current membership.

It is important to sign up early to let us know you are interested. In the event we do not reach the minimum number of students required, we will issue a refund and in some cases, you may wish to direct your payment toward a future planned class.

Families with children ages 3-12 are invited to join us in the Landis House courtyard for a spooky Halloween story, “The Wolves in the Walls,” written by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Dave McKean, and read by PCCA member artist Deena Preston.

The story will also be projected on a screen. Guests/kids are encouraged to come in costume! Take home a goodie bag, craft kit inspired by the book, and suggested reading list of spooky books by Newport Public Library.

BASKET WEAVING: Small Market Basket

Create your own small market basket from natural rattan reeds while learning basic weaving techniques with local basket maker and instructor Teena Beutel! Students should dress comfortably. A supply kit is included in the cost of the workshop.

Masks must be worn properly by all students and the instructor. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Maximum of 6 students to allow for social distancing.

Rug Hooking for Beginners

Create a small mat of your choice from a list of approved rug hooking kits. You will learn how to design your own rugs, what tools and equipment are needed, and all the steps that are necessary to complete a hooked project.

Instructor Kathy Eckhaus will familiarize participants with traditional rug hooking using wool strips and linen backing and introduce them to the history of the craft in Perry County.

Perry County Council of the Arts and Bucknell University SBDC’s Breaking Brand: Creative Approaches to Business Engagement is BACK this Spring with a webinar series designed to guide small business owners toward sustaining and succeeding in their businesses.

Attendees will learn how to understand, design, energize, communicate, and strengthen their brand during five virtual sessions held weekly on Tuesdays, 12 to 1 p.m., from May 4 to June 1.

Breaking Brand kicks off with a deep dive into understanding your business brand—how the sum of your business reputation translates into authentic value and how to maximize your impact and return with customers and your community. The series then continues with sessions focused on how to further leverage your existing brand, through design, persuasive messaging, and strategic use of social media. During the final session, panelists will discuss using smart partnerships to cross-promote and increase awareness, traffic, and overall sales; and how these efforts also strengthen your local community and economy.

This six-week class is designed for the student who wishes to paint with watercolor. The fundamentals of watercolor tools and techniques will be taught. Students will learn tips and tricks for success with an emphasis on composition, color mixing and value. There will be demonstrations in each class with individual instruction and critiques. If you have never painted before, this is the perfect class for you. If you have experience but need a refresher, come sharpen your skills. A supply list will be provided.

Watercolors for Adults – Building Blocks

This six-week class is designed for the student who wishes to improve their paintings in the watercolor medium.  Composition, color mixing and painting techniques will be taught.  There will be an emphasis on creating color harmony and contrast in your composition.  Students will work from a photograph of their choice.  Individual demonstrations and critiques will be part of the teaching process.

Students should have taken a previous introductory class with Wendy Weyant.

PAINTING: Encaustic Wax & Photo Transfer

Want to take a favorite photo or graphic design and turn it into wall artwork? Learn how to transfer photos onto wax and framed wood. Use your own photos or a sample for this process. You will learn how to apply, fuse and manipulate wax. No experience necessary. Participants wishing to use their own photos must preregister and submit photos 48 hours prior to the start of class.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS: Creative Spirit Fusion Community Residency

This Creative Spirit Residency offers classes for ALL AGES, in Expressive & Therapeutic Dance, Drumming, Mindfulness, Embodiment Practices, the Creative Arts (writing, visual arts & vocalization) & Circle Work. It aims to provide an opportunity for participants to:

  • Find a deeper connection within themselves, increasing sense of self.
  • Learn self-care techniques.
  • Expand range of motion, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • Learn expressive and therapeutic outlets for emotion and stress, through the creative arts.

  • Deepen sense of connection in community, tolerance of others & appreciation for diversity.

Take part in self-care movement practices, mindfulness, grounding techniques, and rhythm, to support the body, mind and soul. Classes include: Therapeutic Self-Care: Movement, Embodiment, Vocalization, & Mindfulness; Connection Sessions: Sacred Circle Work, Expressive Dance; and Creative Rhythms: Hand drumming technique/Improv and body percussion (clapping/snapping). Participants are encouraged to explore new expressive and therapeutic outlets, join in a community sharing circle (focused on speaking and listening from the heart), and increase a sense of connection with others.

Women’s Sessions  | Thursdays, 7-8:30 p.m., Sept. 2, 9, 16, & 23

Join these expressive body, mind and spirit workshops for women, including: Free Your Spirit© Expressive Arts; Therapeutic Self-Care: Movement, Embodiment, Vocalization & Mindfulness; Connection Sessions: Sacred Circle Work; and Wise WoMoon Spiritual Dancing. Through these sessions, women are invited to journey deep into the core of the self through meditative relaxation and reawaken into warm-ups of guided, and individually inspired, gentle stretching and movement. The journey continues with freeform movement, exploring the elements within, connecting to the energies of the earth, expanding range of motion, and learning new ways of releasing tension through embodied expression. Students will discover the joy and the unending potentials of self-expression, in creative dance, voice, and rhythm, finding unique movement styles and rhythms.

Creative Spark Kids & Family Classes  | Saturdays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25, Oct. 2

Gather the whole family (all ages welcome!) and discover new ways to connect, communicate, play, and have fun as a family. Have fun, healthy, physical exercise expanding physical range of motion, balancing hemispheres of the brain, gaining coordination and increasing body awareness. Students will participate in: Creative Spark© Expressive Dance & Rhythm; World Dance or Flamenco Dance; Creative Rhythms; and Expressive Arts, Embodiment & Mindfulness.

Teens Only  |  Saturdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Sept. 4, 11, 18 & 25

Discover and explore new avenues of expression through the creative arts, including drumming/creative rhythm, movement/dance, writing, and the visual arts. These practices provide outlets for emotion, increase inner awareness, and deepen sense of self and community connection. Sessions will also explore mindfulness, communication, and self-care. Learn about the basic origins and evolution of Flamenco Dance, the basic footwork techniques (zapatéado), clapping (palmas), hand movements (floréos), snapping (pitos), and the base rhythms (compás) for a few of the Flamenco families of songs (palos), including 4-count and 12-count rhythms.

Transformational Dance | Saturday, Sept. 25, 7-8:30 p.m.

Combine rhythm, vocalization and and visual art for a transformative movement session.
