Wordsmiths of all genres and forms - novels, plays, poetry, journalism, songs, and short stories - meet monthly in a relaxed atmosphere to share and critique their work. There is no charge and the group is always open to new writers! Come early and join the group at Espresso Yourself Cafe for dinner or snacks; a warm welcome awaits you!

Announcing the 14th Annual
Sophie Awards for Poetic Excellence
The deadline for entries is past and the verdict is out. Who will be Perry County's next Poet Laureate? All winning entrants are invited to read their work at the PCCA Coffeehouse on Friday, April 27, 2012. Prizes will be presented during the evening's awards ceremony.

Last year on April 29, The Perry County Council of the Arts and Sophie’s Reaction Writers Group held a special edition of Coffeehouse to celebrate the winners of the Thirteenth Annual Sophie Awards for Poetic Excellence.
Thirteen poets entered a total of 36 poems in a wide range of forms and styles.
Fritz Williams of Shermans Dale, was awarded the title of Perry County Poet Laureate for 2011 for his poem, “Hands.” Fritz, a PCCA Board member, musician, and all around Renaissance Man is currently working on a book of poetry.
County Commissioner Brenda Benner was on hand to bestow an official certificate of recognition, signed by all three commissioners. Perry County’s Poet Laureate receives a $100 cash prize and becomes a featured reader at Arts Council and County events.
First place winner was Mechanicsburg resident Louise Thomas for her poem “do the math”.
Patti McCarty of New Bloomfield received the Kenneth P. Allen Award, with her poem, “An Ode to The Walk.” All entries for the Kenneth P. Allen Award were required to be written in the form of an ode. This award is sponsored by former Perry County Poet Laureate Cordelia Jensen in honor of her late father.
Others honored were: Second Place, Gail Andrews with “Four Letter Word” and Third Place, Poet Coot Tony Oliveri with “Attitude”.
Honorable Mention awardees were Louise Thomas with “Metaphysical Thud” and “Labor” and Charles Chenot with “When I Watch”.
