Coffeehouse not only provides local artists with a stage to perform—it also provides them with a supportive environment that fosters creativity and builds confidence, from the novice to the seasoned performer. First-timers will find themselves encouraged by a menagerie of talented folks. Espresso Yourself Café’s takes great pride in ensuring the menu is stocked with carefully-selected, high quality items. Musical and literary artists of all ages are encouraged to take the stage.
This event debuted in October 1996 in the conference room of the Newport Public Library as a networking opportunity and discussion forum for artists. Before three Coffeehouses had gone by, the focus had expanded to include open mike musical performances and poetry readings as local performers embraced the new venue. The word was out, and before a year had gone by the influx of enthusiastic musicians and poets necessitated moving the event to larger spaces.
Coffeehouse remains one of our most popular venues to this day and draws audiences from all around Central PA. Ten times each year, talented musicians, poets, and storytellers gather to give live performances at Espresso Yourself Café, 8 S. Second St. in Newport. The Coffeehouse open mic format provides valuable performance and networking opportunities for both established and emerging artists.
If you are interested in performing or are simply looking to have a great evening, please call us at 717-567-7023 or e-mail Carrie. Interested performers should contact us by Monday before the event to be assured a spot on the program.
