Artist Opportunities
exhibiting, networking, exploring, and performing
We provide a wealth of opportunities for area artists. Whether your passion is performing, literary or visual arts, PCCA offers a program for your growth and enjoyment. Perhaps best of all, you'll make new friends with common interests by joining the groups and events outlined below.
PCCA membership is necessary to participate in some of the activities listed. Joining PCCA is easy, inexpensive, and beneficial to you and the art community.
VISUAL ARTS
The Visual Arts Collective (VAC) is comprised of area artists who want to make a difference in their communities. They meet monthly at the Arts Council to plan and conduct a variety of opportunities for local artists. VAC volunteers help coordinate the Annual Capitol Rotunda Exhibit, Studio Tour, Artist Workshop/Lecture Series and more. VAC is a friendly pro-active group; join them and meet other artists, discuss art news, and travel to museums or exhibits.
Along with our Gallery, PCCA member artists can participate in a diverse mix of off-site exhibits . These exhibits are open to PCCA member artists in all media who design and produce their own work. Commercially produced work, kits, and patterns are not eligible.
LITERARY ARTS
Sophie's Reaction is our local grassroots writers' group. Dozens of wordsmiths meet monthly in an open and relaxed atmosphere to share and critique their work, which includes novels, plays, poetry, journalism, songs and short stories.
PCCA member artists can take part in our fun and challenging writing exercises offered each month. Members also receive invitations to writers' contests (including the annual Perry County Poet Laureate contest), workshops, seminars, and public readings, and other benefits. Plus, writers are always welcome to read at PCCA Coffeehouse.
PERFORMING ARTS
PCCA Coffeehouse is our most popular venue for performers. Held every other month at a Perry County business, local musicians and poets share an evening with an open microphone and attentive audience.
Sunday Arts Hour is a predominately classical music series in an intimate salon setting.
INTEGRATING ALL THE ARTS
All member artistsvisual, literary and performingare encouraged to take advantage of the selling opportunity offered by exhibiting their work at the PCCA Gallery. A different visual artist is featured each month, and VAC will provide exhibit counseling to anyone selected to ensure that all pieces meet Gallery standards.
Local Community Artists Program (LCAP) Through demonstrations and lectures, artists share their work at schools, senior centers, nursing homes, and the county prison.
Our Arts-in-Education (AIE) program—PCCA ArtFlow—extends into six counties and provides lifelong learning opportunities to all residents and continues to enhance the art curriculum in public and private schools. As a professional artist you can join our Artists in Residency and be placed in an educational setting for 10 or more days.
Expert evaluators are always welcome at Youth Art Day, our annual showcase for student talent open to all Perry County youths.
