"Abandoned America" photography exhibit by Matthew Murray
Hidden in the shadows of the waking world, abandoned buildings offer mute testimonial to our country’s past. I have entered abandoned structures since I was a child, fascinated by the fragments of people’s lives left behind. Four years ago I began a project to preserve such memories and thereby give a voice to the voiceless. Through photography I endeavored to preserve the ethereal grace and stillness that saturates such environments and to give a sense of the awe-inspiring beauty and profound sorrow that remains after life has ceased and only echoes remain.

"Pennsylvania Courthouses"
Member artist Kathleen Howell of Newport will exhibit her watercolor paintings of Pennsylvania's 67 county courthouses and the State Capitol building in Harrisburg. The commissioned project, which has taken Kathleen five years to complete, was launched in 2003. Philadelphia Courthouse (pictured at right) was her most time-intensive piece and took nearly two weeks of around-the-clock painting to complete. Her exhibit will feature several original framed works as well as smaller prints of the remaining counties. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
