Perry County Council of the Arts was named one of this year’s Best Arts Nonprofits by NICHE magazine in an awards ceremony held August 5, 2007, during the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. The Perry County nonprofit tied with Craft Alliance of St. Louis, Mo., for the title. Other nominees (43 total) included the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pennsylvania; and Handmade in America, North Carolina.
More than 18,000 professional fine craft artists throughout the U.S. and Canada nominated nearly 600 galleries, retail stores, arts nonprofits, museums and guilds for the 2007 NICHE Top Retailer Awards. Criteria for nomination were based on NICHE magazine’s Retailer Guide to Best Practices, which details the characteristics of craft retailers who are committed to fair business practices and to growing and strengthening the American craft community. |

The awards program which recognized 33 retailers and gallery owners, was attended by PCCA staff members, Executive Director Joni Williamson, Carolyn Pio and Jasmine Campbell, who served as a judge for specific categories in this year’s event. “I am very ecstatic to have won in this impressive field of peers. What a great honor to receive this award during our 25th year of serving the arts in a rural setting, “ exclaimed Joni Williamson.
NICHE magazine is published by The Rosen Group, a Baltimore-based arts marketing, publishing and advocacy firm. “It is an honor to recognize these retailers,” noted Wendy Rosen, publisher of NICHE magazine. “Their dedication to American craft artisans ensures the strength and growth of the arts and small businesses in communities throughout the country.” |
