Staci Grimes, Photographer

Biography/Artist's Statement

My first point and shoot digital camera transformed my casual interest in photography into a persistent need to frame my world in two dimensions. Although I work in the field of Information Technology, I have a degree in Forestry. I spend a great deal of time outdoors, and my camera is nearly always with me.

Although I constantly push myself to improve my technical ability, it is not enough to take a technically-impeccable photo of an object. Rather, I prefer to try to capture the essence of my subject: a flower in its environment being a flower, a stream being a stream, a wall, a tree, a sun, an insect. When I can convey the beauty, the absurdity, or the notability of my world and the feelings I have when I perceive it, I feel as though I have accomplished the kind of photography I want to do.

I have exhibited work in three different galleries: the Museum of Temporary Art in Mont Alto, the SHAPE gallery in Shippensburg, and the Carlisle Arts Learning Center. My photos are available for purchase in the sales galleries of PCCA and CALC, as well as on my web site and at various local art festivals over the summer months.
