PJ Gorman, Acrylic Painting & Silk Screen

In 1990, I achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Business Analysis from Penn State.  It wasn’t long until I gave up my career as a statistician to become a full time artist.   My style draws upon the art of tribal cultures and shamanistic themes. I use brilliant colors to capture the interior life that I am trying to express. I want to show something out of the ordinary, that is why I am an abstract artist.   Some of my dot paintings have been exhibited around the city of Harrisburg during the Whitaker Center’s Kite Fest in 2006 and at the Contemporary Art and Design Gallery in Salt Lake City.

Dot paintings are the traditional art from of Australian Aborigines. Originally these works were known as sand or ground paintings made with natural materials and represented the mythical experiences of life. These acrylic paintings are my interpretation of this ancient art form using modern materials.

For me, painting is a meditative process. I do other types of artwork, but these dot paintings help me to detach from the day’s events and return to my center.   Each dot takes moment to create, each passing breath adding another dot until those successive moments culminate in a final artwork. Hopefully the peace and balance that I derived creating the painting will be imparted to you the viewer.

More of my artwork and designs can be seen on my website, www.twistedrose.com.
