Artist's Statement
I believe I have an instinct for composition and a unique way of looking at things. I like to capture images with the camera from unique perspectives and then manipulate them using the computer. I want my photographs to be more painterly than realistically rendered. To accomplish this, I sometimes know right away what I want to do with a photograph; other times I’m intrigued by the idea of experimentation. Also, the infinite possibilities of computer manipulation of images stirs me to create. I will manipulate and experiment with a photograph until I feel I’ve found “life” in the image. I enjoy the moment when a realistic representation becomes an abstract image. This artistic inspiration stems from my appreciation of the work of Georgia O’Keefe. In addition, I love to use intense, compelling colors, and the vibrant, forceful colors of Matisse influence me as well.
Artist's Biography
I am a wife, mother of three beautiful daughters, and grandma of a wonderful little boy. I taught elementary school for about twenty-five years and retired four years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed my years of teaching, but always felt a bit frustrated that I couldn’t dedicate more time to artwork. I am very excited about being able to pursue art through photography now that I have retired.
