Kathy Eckhaus, Weaver & Teacher
Biography
Kathy Eckhaus is the director of Music Together in Susquehanna Valley, a fun, family music program for children ages birth to 5 and the grown-ups who love them. The 45-minute classes are a community of families sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting.
Kathy has a Master’s Degree in Education and more than 20 years experience in the field of education, including 11 years in early childhood settings. She trained at the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, New Jersey and is a registered Music Together teacher.
Ms. Eckhaus studied piano, voice and flute and taught herself basic guitar. She loves music and enjoys sharing that love with children and their families.
Kathy also spent 3 years teaching in Malaysia for the Peace Corps and has traveled extensively in India, Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia. She adds a multicultural dimension to her classes and introduces families to instruments and songs from around the world.
In addition to music, Kathy loves weaving scarves, shawls, towels and rugs on one of her three looms. She enjoys the entire process including designing the project, selecting the yarns, warping the loom and the hours of quiet weaving. Kathy says she doesn’t need to go to a spa to relax—weaving is her personal meditation.
