Janet Bricker , Oil and Watercolor Artist
Biography
Ms. Bricker was born and raised in the Harrisburg, Pa area and is of German and American Indian decent. As a child she loved to paint and continued that interest through high school and pursued private instruction. She worked as a commercial artist after graduation.
While being married and maintaining the roll of a mother of three children she continued with her interest in painting. During this period she obtained her teachers’ certification in Cosmetology and owned and operated her own business. She continued her studies at Harrisburg Area Community College, and Dickinson College. Further studies led her to Nova Scotia to study with June Olson, artist/illustrator. She also attended a workshop presented by Doug Kingman, a famous Chinese artist from New York City and workshops of many local artists. She has traveled and painted in Montana, Yellowstone National Park, and England.
Artists who inspire her work are Rembrandt, Andrew Wyeth and Robert Bateman. A past member of the Governor’s Council of the Arts, past president of the Carlisle Art Association, and at present corresponding secretary of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society with 650 members has kept her busy in art affairs. She is also a member of the Art Association of Harrisburg and competes in national competitions.
She paints in all media and her style is considered realistic. Subject matter consists of landscapes, wildlife, flowers, portraits, and Indian Art. Her paintings have been exhibited in one woman exhibits and juried shows. They are in private and corporate collections, across the country and can be seen in her studio, Art on the Yellow Breeches.
